Nokia’s answer to Apple iTunes, Ovi Music Unlimited, offers Indian users 12 months of access to 4 million DRM protected songs. Spread across 27 countries, the service will continue in China, Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey and South Africa. This service, unique to Nokia, provides four million tracks from across 19 genres thanks to the company’s association with Indian Music Industry (IMI) and Hungama.

Ovi Music Unlimited was launched in India in April last year but now Nokia will also offer Ovi Store in Hindi for users of some of handsets such as the Nokia X3-02 or Nokia C3-01. In addition to this, the language interface will also be introduced for its new Symbian devices.

Hindi is the only Indic language available for the Ovi Store but sources reveal that the Hindi interface has not been accessible for the mobile application. Nokia needs to develop its language base for the Ovi Store to go beyond the English speaking users in India. At present, the Ovi Store offers users the option to choose music from Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Oriya and Tamil language. But when the Hindi language interface was tested, it did not show any Hindi app at all. So what is the whole purpose of this offering?

In India, the lower cost series of 40 handsets is the prime focus for Nokia; the company has launched Nokia Listings for specifically target these users. Thus, India will definitely be a part of its plan for the Ovi Browser.
