FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), and the world’s largest express transportation company, has announced the expansion of its premium domestic express delivery service across India. The FedEx Priority Overnight and FedEx Standard Overnight services, which launched in October 2009, will now include 331 destinations, up from 58 destinations previously.

The freight division of global logistics player, DHL Global Forwarding, has announced that it aims to establish many more facilities in India in the near future. Company officials confirmed that DHL will set facilities in 5 free trade warehousing zones (FTWZ) in India by 2013. These will be additionally added apart from the country’s first FTWZ worth $10 million in Chennai.

The order allows managing the logistics and transportation of aggregates from Gammon's quarries in Bihar, UP. The order for management of logistics on National Highway-77 is slated to be executed over a period of 12 months.

This features a multi-tier, multi-tenant, software as a service (SaaS) architecture designed – ideally suited for mid to large-sized manufacturers and distributors.

In the wake of de-regulation of fuel prices, Indian supply chain, logistics and transport companies would soon hike their freight rates by almost 10 percent. Gulf countries represent a tiny pool of buyers compared to India and Brazil but they offer low tariffs, a friendly business environment, retail space and solid appetite for Western upmarket products, luxury executives say.

The two-year contract is effective January 1, 2010, and is extendable by one more year. The contract covers multimodal port, train and road logistics of copper concentrates, cathodes and continuous cast copper wire rods. Contract deliverables include stevedoring, customs clearance and container train-cum-road logistics.

It also said the outsourcing of third-party logistics business (3PL) in the country could touch $90 million by 2012, up from the current $58 million. According to the report, about 55 percent of Indian companies are outsourcing logistics services, such as supply chain management and warehousing, which used to be between 10-15 percent 10 years ago.
